Technology: 3-Radio Access Points

Every Bandspeed AirMaestro Access Point contains three independent dual-band radios inside.  Unlike many competing dual-band, 2 radio APs, the Bandspeed APs offer a dedicated radio for scanning the WLAN environment for interference and security threats across both bands.

Each AirMaestro Access Point has three independent radios.

Each radio can be independently configured to offer wireless service in the 2.4GHz band, the 5GHz band, or to act as a  non-disruptive dual-band WLAN and security scanner.  Additional configurations are supported such as using one radio for a dedicated wireless backhaul/wireless bridge, one radio for wireless service, and one radio for non-disruptive scanning.

The WLAN Monitor Console and WLAN Management Console give you visibility into the AirMaestro Access Points’ three radios, also called WIFs (Wireless Interfaces).

In this example, WIF-1 is providing 2.4GHz 802.11b/g service on channel 6, WIF-3 is providing 5GHz 802.11a service on channel 157, and WIF-2 is the monitoring radio and continues to monitor each channel automatically; this screenshot shows it scanning on the 2.4GHz channel 9
